Selecting A Location

Choosing the right spot is important, but it doesn't have to be difficult

Hi! So I know that, for some, choosing the right spot can be the most difficult part of planning your upcoming session. Don’t stress! Almost anywhere can make for a great and unique backdrop. Two things that are important to consider are 1) time of day and 2) weather. Both of these factors make a HUGE difference in lighting. Photographers often love a time of day affectionately called “golden hour.” This is the time that is roughly an hour before the sun goes down. It makes for beautiful golden glows without harsh shadows. If we can, we shoot for this time of day.

We can also get a similar affect in the early morning hours when the sun is just peeking over the horizon. Remember, the time of sunrise and sunset changes drastically from season to season. If we are in the mountains, foothills, or canyons, the sun is going to be gone a lot sooner than some other places. The same goes for downtown, where big buildings block the sunlight. But seriously, what I want you to take from this is that we can shoot almost anywhere and almost any time. Take a look at some examples below and I’ll bet, you’ll have a location picked in no time.
